Emergency Response Africa

They say water is life. Here\’s why.

Up to 60% of the human body is made of water. Our most vital organs contain even more water – the brain and heart are 73% water, while lungs are 83%! Even our bones are made of 31% water. When we lose too much water, our bodies may become dehydrated. In Africa’s typically hot climate, the chances of becoming dehydrated are even higher.

Some of the symptoms of dehydration in adults include:

  • Increased thirst
  • Dry mouth/swollen tongue
  • Fainting
  • Heart palpitations
  • Sluggishness
  • Weakness/dizziness

Please seek emergency medical care when an individual experiences a high fever, headache, seizures or fainting, has produced no urine in the last 12 hours, or has difficulty breathing and chest/abdominal pain.

The best way to prevent dehydration related emergencies? Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day.
