3 ways to know if your unborn baby is okay

Dear soon-to-be mum,

You might be anxious about the wellbeing of your little one in utero and asking questions like \”Is my baby growing properly?\”, \”Is my baby developing at the right pace?\”, \” Is he/she too small or too big?\”.

Here are a few tips to calm your nerves or better still, tell you if you need a visit to the doctor.

First, if you are an expectant mum, you should be booked at a medical facility for appropriate antenatal care. This gives you access to a medical team who are responsible for checking you frequently, answering your questions, and ensuring that you and your baby are fine.

That said, here are 3 ways to know if your unborn baby is fine:

1. If you are still feeling pregnancy symptoms:

Yes, those pregnancy symptoms we loathe are good signs that your baby is doing fine. So, the morning sickness, vomiting, cramps, feeling bloated, increased urination, nausea, tender breast, etc. All of these are signs that your little human is still doing fine.

If you notice a drop in these symptoms, please check with your doctor or midwife.

2. Your baby is moving:

This goes two ways. If you are under 4 months and you haven\’t felt your baby kick, you do not need to be worried, kicking usually starts between the 4th and 5th month of pregnancy. If you are above 4 months and your baby is moving and kicking, be excited!

That is your baby telling you \”Mum, I\’m doing well\”.

3. You feel normal:

Normal is very different for different women, and even for different pregnancies in the same woman. After the first few months, you will likely know what normal means to you. If you feel anything outside the normal that makes you anxious, curious, suspicious, call your doctor. It is better to find out it was nothing than to overlook it and later realize you should have taken action earlier.

Please let us know in the comment section if you have ever felt anxious about the wellbeing of your baby and what action you took. We would love to hear from you.
