When the word “birth control” or “contraception” comes up, most people automatically think that it only applies to the female. This is not true. There are different methods of contraception that prevent the male from being able to release sperm or prevent the sperm from entering the uterus, hence, preventing pregnancy.

So far, only physical methods of contraception have been used by men as the hormonal control are still under scientific research.

Methods of contraception available to men include:

  • Condom: Usually made of latex, condoms cover the penis and prevent sperm from entering the vagina.
  • Vasectomy: A surgical procedure where the male vas deferens (a tube that delivers semen during ejaculation) are severed and tied. This prevents perm from entering the urethra.
  • Coitus Interruptus: A practice during sexual intercourse where the penis is withdrawn before ejaculation.
  • Abstinence: The only contraception with a 100% success rate, abstinence simply means there is no sexual intercourse. Of course, no sperm reaches the vagina.

Which of these methods appeals to you?
